34 Week Update

So close yet so far away!!!!!!
My Tuesday appointment went okay. The doctor is concerned because my blood sugar levels are still high. She said I will have one more increase dosage of medicine before they will put me on insulin. She hates to put me on insulin so close to the finish line but they have to get my blood sugar under control before delivery. She said that if they can't get my blood sugar results down, then they are going to have to wait to induce me until 39 weeks because Rose's lungs won't be fully developed. So basically, we could have a very large baby with underdeveloped lungs in the NICU (which is not ideal). Rose passed all of her "tests" for the week - so she is still looking good.

At my appointment today, they increased my medicine again and said that I needed to continue to stick to my diet. I prefer to quit calling it a diet and start referring to it as torture.

We did get 2 pictures this week. They are hard to decipher.

This is Rose's hair! We got to see it on the back and side of her head, which means she probably has a head full of hair! I haven't had bad heartburn since I found out I had gestational diabetes, but then again, I'm not really eating - so I guess its hard to get heartburn if you are nearing starvation.

This is a picture of her chunky cheeks and face...

Tommorrow will be another stress test to see if I am having contractions and if Rose is being affected by the meds. Will keep you posted.

Week 33 Update

Rose is now 4 lbs, 10 oz. and is in the 47th percentile! Her growth has really slowed down - good news! She had some hair on the back of her head; the tech thinks that she will have a head full. She looks healthy and is very active. The doctor seemed a little concerned that I've lost a pound since Friday but is contributing it due to me catching a cold over the weekend. If I am not better by my Thursday appointment, they will give me a shot in the bum with antibotics.

At Friday's appointment, Rose and I had a "stress" test. It measures contractions and fetal heartbeat / movement. They like to see no contractions and at least 2 raises in fetal heartbeat over 30 minutes. I am not having contractions and her heartbeat raised 6 times - so all is well!

I will continue to update. Hope everyone is doing well.

Look @ Me!!!!! (32 Weeks)

This week marks the beginning of 2 - 3 doctors appointments a week. Today, we had an ultrasound to perform tests on lil Miss Rose. She scored an 8 / 8 for the breathing test, is swallowing / sucking on her own, heartbeat was 143 bpm and very strong / steady. Amniotic fluid is normal. We do not have a weight yet - they will do that next week to see how big she has grown. She is very active all day long and is beginning to find my ribs. The doctor is still planning on inducing me at 38 - 38.5 weeks, which puts us right at Memorial Day week! The doctor and I agreed that if she is over 9.5 lbs. that we are going to opt for a C-Section, but we are planning on normal delivery right now (with drugs!). Rose is in the head down position and they don't think that she'll flip to a breeched position; but we'll be able to tell better the farther we go. The countdown is 5 1/2 weeks!!!!!! I am doing okay - I have only gained 1 lb in 3 weeks and feel like I'm starving to death, but I know that keeping my blood sugar low is important for our lil princess. My swelling / bloating has decreased significantly over the past few weeks so I feel a lot better. I still have a lot of energy; Blake and I have been busy nesting and doing every possible project around the house to prepare for her arrival. My next appointment is Thursday with the High Risk Diabetes Doctor (to monitor my blood sugar / medicine) and Friday to do a Fetal Stress / Heart Test. Every week I will have an ultrasound and Fetal Stress / Heart Test.

Here are some pictures of lil Rose - all of these pictures are of her face (most of them are very similar, very little changes). She has her hands up by her face. You can click on each picture to enlarge it.

Rose's Mural

Chris and Sara (Blake's brother and sister-in-law) came over this weekend to help us decorate Rose's nursery. We wanted something personalized and unique - they came up with painting a rose mural on the wall. It turned out so great! We are so excited to have a unique nursery and to have it done by family members. We will get better shots once we move the furniture and rearrange. Thanks Chris and Sara - we love it!

We also had 2 baby showers this weekend and boy, did we rack up! We are so blessed! Rose is going to be so spoiled. :)

Rose @ 31 weeks

Our lil princess is not so little - she is weighing in around 4 lbs. 5 oz and is in the 91st percentile for weight. She is a BIG GIRL! (Normal weight at this gestational age is 3-3.5 lbs.) They have upped my medication for gestational diabetes to slow her growth down. My blood sugar has been high even though I've been on the diet and exercise they recommend; the further along in pregnancy, the harder it is for your body to process - so it is normal. They confirmed that she has started practicing breathing, which is a great sign in case we go into early labor. Everything looks great, she is developing beautifully!

I got a couple of pictures from our appointment. Starting the week of the 13th, I will have 3 doctors appointment each week to monitor my diabetes, her growth and heart rate. They are still planning on inducing me around 38-38.5 weeks but won't schedule anything until we are closer.

We will be having 2 baby showers this weekend!!!! My sister-in-law is coming over to paint the rose mural on her bedroom wall - so we will have a lot of exciting things happening!!!

This is a profile pic - you can see her forehead, nose and mouth starting from the left side of the picture.

This is her foot - I think she is going to have her daddy's feet.
