Smiling @ 5 Weeks

Ladies and gentlemen, we have hit a milestone...our little princess is smiling (sans gas or sleeping). It's hard to catch her, but she does it. Luckily, I caught her first smiles on my cell phone (see pictures below). It's true, there's no better feeling in the world than having your baby smile at you for the first time. I don't think she or anyone else could have done anything yesterday to bring me down from my high :)

Sleeping at night is getting much better. Napping during the day is a different story. I think Rose is going to be a social butterfly like her mother. She does not want to miss out on the action and will fight (for sometimes hours) to sleep during the day. She is a happy baby and loves being held and talked to. However, she does not care for tummy time.
She loves bath-time (as long as the water is warm). Sunday was her first bath. She cried a little at first but enjoys the freedom of being naked :)
Here are some pictures and a video from this week.

Test Results

Rose's ultrasound came back today - she is a healthy girl. She does not have any of the same kidney / bladder problems that I had, so we are very thankful. We've had quite a busy week!!! Her umbilicial cord came out yesterday - we have an innie! I can't wait to give Rose her first bath - I think that will definitely be a kodak moment. She looks more and more like Blake everyday.

Her new cool (purple) shades, courtesy of the Hillers.

Sleeping beauty (she is actually sleeping in her bassinet (in this picture) - hallejiuah!)

I caught her sticking out her tongue - future personality indicator? I don't know

Rose likes to be naked...it seems to be her favorite outfit

My Life at 4 Weeks

Rose turned 4 weeks today - she is growing like a weed!

She is still sleeping a lot, I thought I'd document times when she is slumbering...

If she isn't sleeping, she is either yawning or hiccuping (both of which are cute)

She loves sleeping in the car

She can always fall asleep when someone is holding her (can you say spoiled?)

She can sleep while I have shoes put on her (but she will kick them off at the first opportunity)

The most hilarious time she's every fallen asleep - during tummy time / neck exercises

Anytime she is on a soft pillow or blanket (notice that Taylor is taking advantage of the opportunity as well)

She also likes to fall asleep anytime she's on the breast (don't worry, I'll spare you by not posting a pic)

All in all, Rose is a great baby. She has an appointment tomorrow with the Radiologist Specialist to see if she has any of the kidney problems that I had growing up. We do not anticipate any problems, it is just a preliminary screening. She's doing better with holding her neck up and is getting more wiggly.

Blake got a promotion this week. He is now an Assistant Manager for Food Lion at the Spring Hill store. He starts his new role on Monday. He is excited and nervous - we know he will do well and we are so proud of him. Congrats, honey.

Rose's 3rd Week of Life

Rose is getting more into a semi-routine... We've had a pretty good week.
Blake went back to work on Monday, so we are having to re-adjust. He is also going out of town for work from Saturday - Tuesday, so I'm sad that he'll miss his first father's day. I'm going to stay with my parents so that I can have some help over the weekend (they are super excited).

I had to take Rose to the pediatrician yesterday because she had some gunk in her eye and had been fussy for over 12 hours. She was eating every 1.5 hours and her stool color changed. The pediatrician gave us some antibotic eye drops (she has an obstructed tear duct, which is normal in newborns). She said that this tear duct was causing her to be a little congested, which will clear up soon. The doctor wants me to watch my diet to see if she has an food allergies or is sensitive to things. In the meantime, we will have to soothe her with gas drops as best we can :( Other than the past night, she has been a happy baby.

She is starting to smile and is holding her head up more and more everyday. She is also wiggling more and is trying to roll over. I guess my days of lying her on the couch are over!

When she sleeps she does this creepy eye thing (which I happened to catch). At first, it really disturbed me but I read online that it's normal for babies to sleep like this - indicates they are in a deep sleep and are dreaming....

Here are some pictures of our princess this week. She is 9 lbs, 3.8 oz.

2 Weeks Old

Rose is two weeks old today...
Time is flying by, as everyone said it would. She went to the peditrician today and is a very healthy baby girl. She weighs 8 lbs, 9 oz and is still 21 inches.
She is a happy baby - as long as she is fed and clean. She doesn't like to take baths, so I have to figure out a way to quicken her baths. She loves being cuddled and is easy to calm. She loves her swing and to take naps with mommy and daddy on the couch. She doesn't care for diaper changes and is happy when it's finished. She stays awake longer each day and likes to stare at everything. She doesn't mind loud noises and Taylor's barks (thank goodness!).
We are very blessed to have such a wonderful daughter. She looks more and more like her daddy everyday.

Blake, Taylor and I are learning how to take naps during the day. Rose doesn't have a problem in this area at all!
